The Henderson Memorial School of Music at European-American University is named for the late Professor Leonard Henderson, a distinguished musician and consultant on music education.
The School offers a number of opportunities for executant musicians and composers to earn degrees in music, particularly at the graduate level. The current programmes are listed below with links to further information, and are available fully by distance learning. The School was the first to offer the degree of Doctor of Music in Performance for instrumentalists and singers fully by distance learning with no residential requirements.

The degree of Doctor of Music (DMus) in performance was pioneered by the University and was the first such award to be examined wholly in performance, with only an ancillary written component, purely via distance learning with no residential component. It is intended for outstanding performers of Western classical music (instrumentalists or singers) who can demonstrate the highest level of executant capability through an assessed portfolio of work. The portfolio will be expected to centre around recorded performance (of which a majority should be live and unedited) of the major works of the instrument or voice in question, in which the candidate is either a solo or an ensemble performer. The highest level of both technical and interpretative command will be expected. Together with the portfolio, the candidate will submit a contextual paper that details the approach to the works concerned and discusses their place both within their artistic development and within the repertoire of the instrument or voice concerned.

Romantic Discoveries Recordings
Romantic Discoveries Recordings, which is an associated research centre of the University, is a pioneering recording label that in more than a decade of operation disseminated over 100 world premiere recordings of the piano music of nineteenth-century composers, including first recordings of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Alkan and many less well-known composers whose music has been unjustly eclipsed by later changes in musical fashion.

Henselt Library of Nineteenth-Century Piano Music
The Henselt Library houses over 2,000 rare scores of nineteenth-century piano music, many of which are not generally available elsewhere. It consists of scores that are mostly for piano 2 hands, with a small number of concerto scores and reductions. Both original works and transcriptions are represented, ranging from miniatures and salon pieces to major sonatas and extended tone-pictures. This variety reflects the importance of the piano in both public concert life and in more intimate surroundings. All items are in the public domain, and their use for performance and recording projects is encouraged.
