Application Form

Application process

The process of application is completely individualized and consists of a review of the inquirer’s background and proposals for a programme of study.  It is possible to apply and start a programme of study at any time of the year. Each application is treated entirely on its own merits. We try to respond quickly to applicants, and to keep them informed of the progress of their application via email.

Usually, having first read this website thoroughly, applicants have formed a clear idea of their aims and the potential route to achieving them. If they are aiming for a programme by research or with a strong element of self-design, they will have some view of what their learning contract may look like, even if this has yet to be worked out in detail. Information on research proposals is given here.

Requests for programme guidance

If an enquirer wishes to enquire about a specific aspect of a programme, about the availability of a programme not listed on the website, or about other aspects of studying with the University, they should email the University.

Applying for a place for campus-based study

If you are applying for a programme offered on campus you will apply via the campus concerned, since all affiliated campuses are independently owned and controlled rather than being run centrally by the University. The campus will give you details of the forms to fill out and will process your application. You will not need to contact the University directly as part of this process.

Applying for a place on the distance learning programme

There is no fee for application. Please note that degrees cannot be issued in subjects including medical (medicine, dental science, veterinary medicine etc.) and paramedical disciplines (nursing, pharmacy,  midwifery, healthcare etc.)

Precognition

Applicants for programmes by VAE (assessment-based) should complete the Application Form. Before completing the form, please read this website thoroughly and particularly the Frequently Asked Questions.

Applicants for taught or research programmes should complete the Application Form and may also send an email to the University, giving a brief summary of their programme intentions.

Precognition consists of an initial review of the candidate’s suitability for the programme. As part of this, educational and other documents may be requested. Precognition is free of charge and without obligation.

For taught and research programmes this is usually followed by a consideration of whether mentoring for the proposal can be provided with the resources available. At this stage, informal discussion may take place with the proposed mentor and the learning contract may begin to take shape.

Matriculation/admission

When the precognition process is complete and the University has both received all documents required and confirmed with the candidate that their programme is viable, the candidate will receive the course place acceptance. This formalizes the details of their application and states the terms and conditions applicable to the candidate’s studies. By accepting the offer the candidate is agreeing to the associated terms and conditions as published by the University. At the same time, the candidate will submit the first payment of fees. Following receipt of these items, the candidate will be formally matriculated onto their programme of study.
